You’ve had a new shower screen fitted and you couldn’t be more pleased. It looks great, the bathroom looks much lighter and brighter now the shower curtain has been removed, and the glass is sparkling. But, you know after a few uses, soap scum and limescale will begin to build up and mar your lovely new look. One of the most common questions we get asked here at
Langson Glass in how to keep
shower screens in Wollongong clean?
There are three things to tackle
Water marks
Soap scum
Limescale
The easiest way to prevent and clean water marks from a shower screen is to use a window squeegee. Use it after every time someone showers and it will prevent streaks on the glass.
Shower screens must be cleaned frequently to remove the build-up of soap, shampoo, and other wash products.
The easiest way is to use a proprietary cleaner specially designed for shower screens or you will find lots of tips on how to do this online. These vary from using vinegar and newspaper to using a mixture of fabric softener and water, to using a mixture of vinegar, water and dish soap.
There are also products that you spray onto shower screens and tiled areas that you “leave on” to do their magic. They work to remove water and soap from the surface but you can only try these to see if they are successful for you.
LIMESCALE
This is generally the most troublesome. Here’s what we think is the best method.
You need:
Limescale remover
Double sided sponge (one side soft, one side coarse)
Glass cleaner
Spray bottle
Microfibre cloth
Glass cloth
Some limescale removers are very strong so it is best to wear gloves!
Spray the shower screen with the limescale remover then spread it and massage it in using the coarse side of the sponge.
Leave on for the recommended contact time (see manufacturer’s instructions on the bottle).
Most instructions will tell you to use the shower spray to rinse off the limescale remover, but this can give disappointing results. Instead, dilute some glass spray in a spray bottle. Spray on the screen and wipe off with a microfibre cloth.
Give a final wipe over with a clean glass cloth.
This will leave your screen looking as new as the day it was installed.
