You can clean your glass using vinegar and water or a specialised glass cleaner. Use a lint-free rag or paper towel and spray any smudges or streaks, then wipe in a circular motion.

Glass is fragile, and there are no set ways to permanently keep it from breaking other than to be careful and avoid sharp objects where possible. In many cases, cracked glass, such as that on a windshield, can be fixed instead of replaced. This will depend on how widespread the crack is, as severe damages may warrant an entire replacement of the offending glass.
